Born in the lab

Gatorade is the only sports drink scientifically proven over 45 years to help fuel pros, amateurs, or anyone serious about their performance.

Back in 1965, Dr. Robert Cade, Dr. Dana Shires, Dr. H. James Free and Dr. Alejandro de Quesada, a group of University of Florida researchers, noted the University football team was underperforming in the sweltering summer conditions. Their research concluded the team wasn't properly hydrated, causing their performance to falter. Taking their findings into the lab, they formulated a new, precisely balanced carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage that, unlike water, kept the players properly hydrated. They called their drink 'Gatorade'.
